Targeted physiotherapy for wrist and hand nerve compression

Carpal Tunnel Treatment Gold Coast

Evergreen Hand Therapy specialises in evidence-based physiotherapy for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, a condition caused by pressure on the median nerve in the wrist.

Led by Dr Lauren Miller, our Accredited Hand Therapist with a research PhD on finger fracture management and over 20 years of clinical expertise, the clinic offers individualised assessment, treatment, and prevention plans for people living across Varsity Lakes, Robina, Burleigh, and the wider Gold Coast. Treatment focuses on reducing pain and numbness, restoring hand strength, and maintaining function in everyday activity.

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome develops when swelling or repetitive strain narrows the space surrounding the median nerve. This compression can cause pain, tingling, or weakness that worsens over time if untreated. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent symptoms from progressing and may reduce the likelihood of requiring surgery. Typical symptoms include:

  • Weakness when gripping or holding objects
  • Night-time pain or stiffness on waking
  • Tingling or numbness in the thumb, index, and middle fingers

Causes and Prevention

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can result from any condition or position that reduces the amount of space within the tunnel, increasing pressure on the median nerve. To reduce risk:

  • Keep wrists neutral when typing or using tools
  • Take short breaks during repetitive hand activity
  • Use ergonomic equipment where possible
  • Seek professional assessment at the first sign of tingling or weakness

How We Can Help

Each treatment plan is designed specifically for your presentation and lifestyle demands. Our aim is to restore comfortable movement, protect long-term nerve health, and support you in returning to work, sport, and daily activities. Care may include:

  • Custom wrist splints to relieve nerve pressure
  • Comprehensive clinical assessment and nerve testing
  • Swelling and scar management post surgery or trauma
  • Education and ergonomic advice to prevent recurrence
  • Manual therapy and exercise programs to improve nerve and tendon gliding and movement

Post-Surgical Rehabilitation For those who have undergone surgery, structured rehabilitation supports safe recovery and optimal function. Dr Miller works collaboratively with surgeons and GPs to guide each stage, from gentle motion and wound care through to strengthening and full activity restoration.

Custom wrist splints and orthoses Splints are customised at Evergreen Hand Therapy and adjusted as healing progresses. A neutral-position wrist orthosis can reduce pressure within the carpal tunnel and allow tissues to recover during work or rest. Each design balances comfort, support, and mobility for everyday use.
